New York State is offering incentives to help people conserve energy through the Home Performance with Energy Star program.  To be eligible, your electricity must be provided by National Grid, and energy improvement work must be performed by a certified contractor, like Summit Construction.

The three major incentives available to residential customers are:

Homeowner Financing Incentive (HFI)
The homeowner uses their own money or gets a loan from a lending institution of their choice.  After the homeowner gets the best financing they can, HFI will rebate 10% of the total costs.

ENERGY STAR loan
Homeowners can obtain an unsecured loan at a fixed rate of 5.99%.  This cannot be combined with HFI.

Assisted Home Performance Subsidy
This is a grant for qualified homeowners that does not have to be repaid. It covers 50% of the cost of home improvements, up to $5000.  This can be combined with the Energy Star loan, but not with the HFI.
